The first time I saw Summer Macedo surf was as a staff photographer for the 2015 ISA World Juniors in Oceanside. Backpedaling through the crowd while she was being chaired up the beach by the Hawaiian team left me with the impression that her surfing future would be bright indeed. After winning the World Junior title, Summer has gone on to have strong finishes around the globe as a WQS competitor and looked to have another solid season in 2020 before Covid-19 took over the world.
For anyone who's been on quarantine for the past month or more, surf footage has been a necessary lifeline to some sense of normalcy. Luckily for Summer and for us surf fans, surfing in still allowed in Hawaii so plenty of clips are continuously streaming from the Aloha state. For anyone who's been missing deep rail carves and hammering sections, Summer Macedo's surfing in Maui fits the bill perfectly.
