KL:
Do you see yourself as a role model?
SR: I hope that some people would take me as a
role model, I feel like I've worked hard to be
where I am. My passion for surfing is so big,
if one girl can watch me surf and can tell that,
wow, she really loves it and she tries to push
the level of longboarding. And not only surfing,
but going to school, that you can do both, you
can have a career and be a professional at the
same time.

"Summer really studies
what she wants to do. For example, she can
watch a surf film, break down the maneuvers
and be pulling things off in the morning.
I feel that she never gives herself enough
credit as a student, daughter, surfer whatever!
I guess that is why she is so good at what
she sets as a goal. Summer is a person whose
actions speak louder than words. She has
a lot to offer in terms of friendship and
promoting women's surfing. She just lives
and does what her heart tells her...luckily
it has all worked out."

KL:
One piece of advice for up-and-comers.
SR: Do it because you love it. Don't take it too
seriously. If you want to win, you gotta want
it bad.
KL:
When you're out in the line-up and the waves are
macking, do you pray to anything?
SR: Yeah, I think a couple times I've done a little
praying. Pray to God I guess and He usually comes
through, definitely I believe in asking for help
sometimes.
KL:
Are you a spiritual person when not in dire need?
SR: Just my own personal beliefs, I don't go to
church or anything, but I believe in personal
morals and values, be good type of thing.
KL:
Any shout-outs?
SR: Shout-out to my mom. Love you. Donald Takayama,
best longboard shaper in the world, I believe
that with everything I have, Bob's Mission Surfshop,
Blala Wetsuits, and OFISHL Fins.
