KL: What prompted you to move to Oceanside?
KM: You know, the lack of surf in Malibu. There aren't many other options close by when it's flat. You grow up surfing right points your whole life… I just wanted a change, I needed more variety. And plus, it's super crowded; you get dropped in on more often than not. Down here, you can paddle down the beach and maybe find a less crowded wave.

KL: So bought a house in Oceanside?
KM: Yeah, I got a house in Oceanside, five minutes from the beach, and I got a roommate, so I'm super stoked.

KL: All funded by surfing?
KM: Yeah, definitely, by surfing and doing a little modeling. Since I first started doing trips down here with my dad I've wanted to move here. I've always thought of it as kinda the Mecca of surfing in Southern California. When I'd think of surfing I'd think of San Diego in the summer. So with surfing I was able to put money away and eventually get a place down here. I was really really stoked.

KL: What was the first thing you remember thinking this morning?
KM: Ha, 'where should I go surfing?'

KL: Nice, pretty standard…
KM: Yeah, totally, it's like 'what am I gunna eat, I wanna surf, where should I go?'

KL: What's your favorite kind of warm beverage?
KM: Tea. I love tea, any kind. English breakfast with honey and milk is the best.

KL: What's your favorite local eatery?
KM: The Hill Street Café is suuuper good. And next door, The Fish Joint, for sushi, is the best. It's the best sushi I've had in North County, and the guys who work there are super chill. So between those two places I don't really have to go anywhere else.

KL: How's women's longboarding doing at the moment?
KM: It's actually getting a lot of momentum, which is great. For the first time since I've been longboarding, I feel like it's actually going somewhere. You know, I've been doing trips and traveling for the past 8 years and just having fun, but never have we had major contests. The industry has recognized us, but not to the level they're recognizing us now. So it's a good time to be a woman longboarder, or any longboarder.
