KL:
Fair enough, how did you and Hello Kitty become
such good friends?
HB: You know Dante? He works for the U.S. Open,
his dad is the marketing director at Sanrio, the
parent company for Hello Kitty. It was their 30th
anniversary, so they wanted to throw all these
festivals in music, sports, and fashion. So they
had Cameron Diaz wearing a Hello Kitty necklace
and they ran a surf contest. Kinda random, but
they came to me and said "we want to do something
with surfing, but we don't really know how."
So I told them "you HAVE to throw a surf
contest! I was thinking, this it was my opportunity
to help out the tour and bring a contest!"
so my manager helped out a lot and we got a 4-star.
KL:
You have sisters?
HB: Yep, I've got 4. All younger. I'm Mama goose.
I love marching them down to the beach, all in
row. I get so stoked.
KL:
How's your boyfriend?
HB: He's epic.
KM:
What is he up to right now?
HB: He's working, poor guy. He's an engineer at
Robinson Helicopter, so he actually builds helicopters,
which amazes me. But yeah, he's one of the head
engineers there, so I'm proud of him.
KL:
Do ever help him make helicopters?
HB: Ha, no, I'm pretty useless when it comes to
that kind of thing. I listen to his stories of
the making of them though, and try to ask questions
that are relevant. Some of it goes over my head,
and I'm like "huh, right on, sweet, so yeah
I surfed today, and…."
KL:
What song has been in your head lately?
HB: That Matisyahu,
track 5, King Without a Crown maybe it's called.
KL:
Do you think you've changed much in the past 5
years?
HB: Oh yeah, changed a tremendous amount for sure.
KL:
How so?
HB: Um, maybe just a different set of priorities.
Just more life understanding. It's not that one
thing has changed, I just feel a lot more mature
as a person, as the things I appreciate have evolved
a little more and take things a little more seriously.
