FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lay Day Today; Rip Curl Women’s Pro
Champion Crowned Tomorrow
BELLS BEACH, Australia (Sunday, Mar.
23, 2008) – After assessing conditions all morning,
event organizers for the Rip Curl Pro presented by Snickers
and the Rip Curl Women’s Pro presented by Ford Fiesta
have called competition off for the day, citing the small
one-to-two foot (0.5 metre) waves on off at Bells Beach.
Stop No. 2 of 8 on the 2008 ASP Women’s
World Tour, the Rip Curl Women’s Pro will complete competition
tomorrow, the final day of the waiting period. Of the eight
remaining quarterfinalists, the Rip Curl Women’s Pro
boasts three ASP Women’s World Champions and four past
winners of the ASP Women’s World Tour event at Bells
Beach.
“We’ve called competition
off for the day, but we’ll be running expression sessions
and team challenges this afternoon,” Neil Ridgeway,
Event Director, said. “It’s a beautiful day in
Victoria, but the swell isn’t what we need to run World
Tour heats today. We have a projected bump in swell over the
evening and we will be completing the Rip Curl Women’s
Pro presented by Ford Fiesta tomorrow.”
Running in conjunction with the Rip Curl
Women’s Pro, the Rip Curl Pro presented by Snickers
has completed Rounds 1 and 2 of competition, and will look
to run heats amidst the completion of the women’s event
tomorrow.
“An inconsistent new swell is expected
to fill into the contest site during Monday, with a peak in
size expected late in the day,” Ben Matson, official
Swellnet forecaster for the Rip Curl Pro, said. “Early
light winds will freshen from the N/NE during the morning
ahead of an afternoon sea breeze. Monday’s new swell
is expected to fade slowly throughout Tuesday, but winds will
swing NW and freshen, creating smooth conditions at Bells
Beach.”
Event organizers will meet tomorrow morning
at 7:30am for a possible 8am start.
Both the Rip Curl Pro and the Rip Curl
Women’s Pro will be webcast LIVE via www.aspworldtour.com.
