JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Rochelle King:
I would set the first half aside for a down
payment on a house in Santa Barbara County.
I would donate the other half to the Orfalea
Foundations. This is a non profit that works
with local schools to promote educational development
and sustainable solutions.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Rochelle: A 7'2"
Vaquero. I can ride it in overhead or knee high
surf and it fits in my car. It's a perfect go
to board for me.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Rochelle: I would
like to either be on a covered wagon crossing
the US with a family to witness the craziness
of everyday living that a family dealt with
as they traveled through uncharted country.
I also think it would be fascinating in be involved
in the English court. The daily dressing, the
secret powers and mystery needed to survive
all added a mystery to each day. At the end
of each day, no one knew what the next would
bring or who would survive.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Rochelle: Almonds,
I don't really watch surf movies, Jeff Buckley's
Hallelujah, I love to read so this
is really hard to pick one book. I would probably
enjoy a blank book instead to write about the
day.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Rochelle: There
weren't many in 2009. What stands out in my
mind is my finish at the 2009 World Championship
Paddle board race. Mentally and physically prepared,
I finished third and enjoyed a great day with
my friends and family.
