JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Nikki Brooks: Save
the money that is for me for when it is needed
for my family and loved ones. Who knows what
is going to happen in this crazy world! The
other half would go towards education. "In
the end, we will conserve only what we love,
we will love only what we understand, we will
understand only what we are taught." -Baba
Dioum, Senegalese Conservationist
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Nikki: Ashley Lloyd's
single fin biscuit of course! Special because
it's one of kind.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Nikki: Ahab. I've
always wanted to voyage the sea, with a one
legged man and make fictional history! The Black
Panther Party because it was gnarly and to see
what the energy of oppression really feels like.
An Ohlone Indian. Moses. To see what the light
looked like in that part of the world that long
ago.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Nikki: The Bible
because it is very big and I could learn a lot.
Rocket's Tail or This Woman's Work
by Kate Bush. Surf movie ...maybe I will make
one while I'm on the island. Almond butter.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Nikki: Milky topaz,
invigorating, nutrient rich sea filtered from
New Zealand's Kaikoura Alps.
