JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Malia Manuel: With
my half million I would invest in a house and
with the other half I'd donate it to my old
high school, Kapa'a High.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Malia: When I was
four, I got my first custom board for Christmas
shaped by Terry Chung, it had my name on it
with big bold letters. I loved that board, wish
I still had it!
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Malia: Queen Lydia
Liliuokalani; the last reigning Queen of Hawai'i.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Malia: A Journal.
Magic by Ladyhawke. Replay II.
Chocolate Soy Ice Cream.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Malia: My surf
trip to the Mentawais with the Nike 6.0 team.
