JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Lulu Erkeneff:
If I had a million dollars, the benefit half
would go to stopping illegal whaling and to
the Surfrider Foundation. I am very passionate
about helping the ocean and trying to fix the
faults we are making as a whole. I see it everyday
and I wish to do everything I can to help the
earth. The other half I would have for myself
would go to a college education in marine biology
and traveling the world as a competitive surfer
and also just to surf different places with
different cultures.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Lulu: The best
board I have ever ridden is my current shortboard.
It's a Rusty shaped by Rick Hamon and it just
rides so amazingly well, I have progressed so
much because of this board. It's a 5'8"
squash tail and gives me so much freedom to
try new things.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Lulu: If I could
travel back in time and hang with anyone, it
would be with The Beatles. They made amazing
music and are definitely icons. To be a groupie
or a friend who followed on tour would be fun.
I have always wanted to go on tour with a band
and they would be it.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Lulu: If I was
stuck on a desert island I would definitely
be hoping I could surf ...but to pass the time
I would bring Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows by J.K. Rowling, it is such an
interesting book and I could read it over and
over. The song I could listen to repeatedly
would be You Belong With Me by Taylor
Swift/Pitz, it always brings my mood up and
pumps me up. Modern Collective would
be the movie. It has amazing progressive surfing
and great music to match. I would probably bring
something healthy if I had to eat it everyday
so it would probably be fruit salad ...if it
wasn't so healthy it would be a cinnamon raisin
bagel.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Lulu: My best surf-related
memory of 2009 has to be my first trip to the
North Shore over this Thanksgiving. Amazing
waves. Lifelong friends. Memorable place.
