JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Lindsay Steinriede:
The half a million that is mine, I would buy
little condos all around the world in my favorite
countries and a personal jet so that traveling
would always be an option. As for the
other half a million, I would split the money
up between multiple foundations but the majority
would probably go to breast cancer, wild life,
and hunger foundations.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Lindsay: My boards
just keep getting better and better so it's
hard to pick one. One that does stand
out to me is my first Infinity. I just
changed sponsors, and was headed to a contest
in Hawaii in a couple days. My now husband
picked me a board off of the rack that he had
shaped. It was a 9'0" epoxy competitor.
The thing could not have weighed more
than 7 or 8 lbs. My first time on it was
in Hawaii the day before the contest and it
was magic under my feet. I ended up winning
that Hawaiian pro longboard event on it and
came home to win the first ASP Women's Longboard
U.S. championship on it at Cardiff (The 2006
Roxy Jam Cardiff). I traded it in a few
months later, but my dad wanted to have it around
his house and decided to go buy it off the used
board rack. Come the 2007 Roxy Jam Cardiff,
I had just destroyed my favorite tri-fin, and
needed a board pronto. Without asking,
the day before the contest I took that epoxy
board out of my dad's upstairs room. I brought
it to the contest, waxed it up, and went home
with a second place in the main event and won
the longest nose-ride. I once again retired
the board, but I'll always know where to find
it if I ever need it again.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Lindsay: Bob Marley.
Nobody could, and can, bring people together
like he did, and his music and lyrics continue
to do so. In such times of war, I think
everybody could take a lesson from Bob on living
as one united world regardless of race, religion,
etc...
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Lindsay: The
Dhammapada. Redemption Song by
Bob Marley. Searching for Tom Curren.
Nutella.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Lindsay: My best
surf-related story is definitely a secret! My
second best surf-related story is also a secret
due to specific location, but let's just say
it involves a beautiful day in Australia, surfing
a spot that can only be reached by individuals
with a specific mode of transportation, and
surfing great waves with only three friends
and a random man.
