JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Jodie Barsby: First,
I would pay all my debts as well as my family's
debts so that we are all debt-free. Then I would
invest most of my money so that I wouldn't spend
it so much and donate money to a charity, use
it to help out the local communities/people
that may need the money for fundraising etc.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Jodie: Definitely
the board that I've ridden by far throughout
my career would have to be the Local Motion/Carl
Schaper Longboard that was shaped for Bonga
Perkins. When I competed in my first comp which
was the Malfunction in 1997 I got third in the
open women's division. The same comp that Bonga
won in the Open 9's, the board he rode and won
on, he gave it me as an encouragement award
and to this day I still have his board but I
don't ride it now. I did after I got it and
it felt like I was on a jet because it was so
responsive.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Jodie: There are
so many people to choose I couldn't spend it
with just one person.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Jodie: All of the
above to keep myself occupied and sane!!
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Jodie: I do have
to say seeing Harley Ingelby winning this year's
World Longboard Title.
