JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Devon Holloway:
If I received a one million dollar check I would
buy a big tree and plant it on an open lot that
I would buy in my neighborhood. I would use
resources from the land to build a tree house
on the lot, plant a garden, buy a fishing pole
and a canoe and live off the land, teaching
my community through example how sustainability
is the best option for the future of our planet
and how a strong relationship with mother earth
brings about the deepest connections life has
to offer.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Devon: The best
surfboard I have ever ridden was a 5'0"
fish my boyfriend Scott shaped for me for my
birthday this year. It is a fast, wave catching
machine made with love.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Devon: If I could
travel back in history I would hang around Duke
Kahanamoku so I could experience our sport in
its infancy. It would be so inspiring, I feel,
to witness the passion he had for the ocean
and riding her waves in the early days of surfing.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Devon: A blank
notebook so I could write my own story. Josh
Ritter's Come and Find Me. Surf movie,
Change the Subject. Bait for fish so
I could catch them and eat them as a snack.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Devon: My best
surf memory from 2009 was traveling to Peru
and exploring the unknown with two girl friends.
Surfing perfect lefts while finding out more
about myself and the world around me is an experience
that I will never forget.
