JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Courtney Conlogue:
One million is definitely enough money to do
a good deed for yourself and another organization.
With my half of the money I would invest some
plus purchase a home with a great gym, pool
and art studio. The other half I would donate
to SurfAid for their Malaria Free Programs.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Courtney: The best
surfboard I have ever ridden was my 5'9"
Bushman that I used to win my National title
two years ago. The board was magical and connected
to me. I thought and did whatever I wanted and
the board just followed.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Courtney: I can't
pick out just one person in time. There are
so many special people in history that it would
be cool to follow for at least a day: Alexander
the Great when he went to battle, Neil Armstrong
traveling to the moon and landing on it, I would
love to have a tea party with the Buddha and
Dalai Lama and listen to them, Charlie Chaplin
during the silent movie creation, hang with
Elvis Presley while he performed just to name
a few.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Courtney: My book
would be Siddhartha by Herman Hesse,
my song would be Coastin' by Zion-I,
the surf movie would be Modern Collective,
and my snack food would be pita bread and hummus.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Courtney: The US
Open win, my ISA World Championship win in Costa
Rica, and my trip to Bali.
