JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Crystal "CJ"
Soto: I'd give the money to Environment California
because I think it's important to keep our world
green in order to live a healthy life. For myself,
I'd spend money it on Indonesian surf trips
and buy a condo in Southern Cali.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
CJ: Huge Mahalo
to Masuzzo surfboards ...I feel like I've improved
a lot from my boards by Luiz Masuzzo.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
CJ: This question
is hard to answer because I'm not really into
history, instead I'm excited about new adventures/surf
trips coming up with new people. I'm always
looking forward.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
CJ: It would be
a Bible to remind me there's no time to be wasted
on negative energy. A song—maybe something
with a good rhythm for me to feel the beat for
workouts haha (I was born deaf). Any surf video
with CJ Hobgood in it. A jar of reduced fat
peanut butter for snack.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
CJ: Living on North
Shore, Oahu in a studio at Backyards was epic!
Also, winning the Deaf World Championship at
Queens last July.
