JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Chandler Parr:
The first half of the money I would save, and
maybe buy a jet ski and a car. The rest of it
I would donate to the Surfrider Foundation and
other foundations that help save the environment.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Chandler: The best
surfboard I have ever had was a Bill Johnson
shape, rounded pin, 5'9" x 17 3⁄4
x 2, with Future Fins. The board worked so well
in all conditions and I won the Rip Curl Gromsearch
National Title on it.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Chandler: If I
could go back in time and meet anyone it would
have to be Charles Darwin because he had discovered
so many things about the environment and the
animals that call it home. I think it would
be interesting to hear firsthand what he had
to say.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Chandler: The
Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook by
Joshua Piven. Bon Iver's Skinny Love
or Common Reactor by Silversun Pickups.
Secret Machine. LUNA Bar S'mores.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Chandler: Going
on a surf trip to Fiji with Holly Beck, Mary
Osborne, Kaley Swift, and Jenni Flanigan. It
was my first big surf trip and we stayed on
an amazing boat. All the girls are now like
my big sisters and just surfing new waves and
being immersed in the different cultures was
amazing.
