JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Candice O'Donnell:
Sharing is caring, I'd spread the love and the
million.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
Candice: My first
custom single fin, it's a dog of a board, but
has so much soul.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
Candice: Captain
Cook.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
Candice: I'd write
my own book. Anything by John Lee Hooker
or something by Yann Tiersen. The Endless
Summer. Nik Naks.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
Candice: I have
a couple of really good surf-related memories
of 2009, but one that stands out would have
to be a Biarritz, France early morning session
with my twin sister Kerry and Kassia Meador.
This soon turned into one of the coolest sessions
of 2009 for me.
During some free surf time between the pressures
of competing all week at the Roxy Jam, we soon
found our three person surf session turning
more into a complete party out back. Two-foot
perfect glassy Cote De Basque and the top 32
female longboarders, all trading off waves,
and swapping boards, alaias, and bodysurf hand
plants. Some light banter and storytelling could
be heard by everyone, accompanied by this colorful
patchwork quilt of accents from across the world.
SURFING IN ITS PURIST FORM. No one seemed to
care about anything, and instead embraced the
moment, the joy, the freedom, and the friendships
in the water that day. Good times!
