JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Bilandra Chase:
I'd donate half of the money to World Vision,
a non-profit organization that helps children
and their families in developing countries by
providing them food, clean water, education,
and medical attention. Then, I'd relocate the
family to Bali and hire a nanny so I could go
surf again.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
BC: My favorite
board was shaped by my man, Scott 'RAZ' Raisbeck.
It was the first board he ever shaped me and
it was before we started dating. It was my magic
board, 5'10" x 18-1/8" x 2-1/8",
sea-foam with olive pinlines and white rails
and glass-on fins. I remember leaving him a
post-it maybe 2 days after I ordered my board,
joking, "Where’s my board already?"
He still has it on his shaping room wall.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
BC: My grandpa.
I want to know more about the man that shaped
my father into being such an amazing man.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
BC: The Bible.
Bob Marley's Acoustic Medley. Loose
Change. Assuming my deserted island is
overflowing with coconuts, then I’d take
almonds; otherwise, coconut.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
BC: About a month
or so ago, I got to run for a surf while my
baby was napping and my husband was watching
the Chargers. It was mid-day, sheet glass, slightly
overhead with six guys out. It was one of the
last sessions that I get to surf until our new
baby arrives in March, so I'll definitely remember
it fondly.
