JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Belinda Baggs:
I would buy a small sail boat and search for
waves with family and friends. The other half
I would divide between helping out honest families
and donating the rest to environmental causes
that benefit the ocean.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
BB: I have 2 special
boards right now. The first one is a Patagonia
FCD 5'8" egg. I've always wanted to ride
a shortboard better and this board has opened
up that side of surfing for me. 9'2" diamond
tail single fin log—the ultimate blend
of turning and noseriding. This is a type of
board that I just love. It is so smooth turning
and really allows you to place the board in
the critical part of the wave for noseriding.
It just gives you a feeling that is incomparable.
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
BB: Ernest Shackleton
in the early 1900's, exploring the globe and
discovering new lands ...the most epic adventures.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
BB: Book - Jonathan
Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach; Song
- November Blue by Avett Brothers,
Movie - Sipping Jetstreams; Snack -
strawberries.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
BB: Macaronis in
July. We surfed it overhead for 2 days with
no other boats. It's my favorite wave.
