JettyGirl: A one million
dollar check arrives in your mailbox with a
note that reads, "Half of this amount is
yours and the other half is to benefit the world
around you." How would you spend the money?
Andrea Holeman:
I would invest 1/4 in my surfboard company,
give some to my mom and other family members
that have helped me out, invest some in a house,
1/4 I would donate to domestic non-profits that
help kids and battered women, and 1/4 I would
donate to international organizations that fix
hair-lips and other deformities in kids.
JG: Describe the best surfboard
you've ever ridden and why it was special to
you.
AH: The best surfboard
I ever rode I still have, it's a 6'0 HSD 5-fin
bonzer my husband shaped for me. He told me
it was a board for a shop and to paint it however
I wanted. When the board was done instead of
sending it to a shop, he gave it to me for our
anniversary. 2 feet or 20 feet, mush or barrels,
it always works!
JG: If you could travel
back to any time in history and hang with one
person while they go about their daily activities,
who would it be and why?
AH: Frida Kahlo.
I'd love to hang out, paint a little, get drunk,
and talk politics with her.
JG: For thirty days you're
stuck on a desert island with one book, one
song, one surf movie and one snack food. Which
ones would you choose?
AH: 30 days with
only one book, I guess it would have to be The
Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield. I
could read it until I had it memorized. One
song—something fun to sing like Cocaine
Blues by Johnny Cash. I'd pass on the dvd
for a surf book if I could, but I'd pick Peaches
'cause I love the music.
JG: What is your best surf-related
memory of 2009?
AH: My best surf
memory would have to be one of the perfect days
right in front of my house. Some of my girlfriends
came up to surf and when we got to the beach
it was firing. A bunch of pro girls were out
and I got to watch as Sofia Mulanovich killed
my home break. I love the look on guys' faces
when girls are dominating.
