| JettyGirl:
While faltering economies, political turmoil and
energy issues dominated most of the headlines
during the past year, much of 2008's good news
slipped through the cracks. What's the best thing
that happened to you in 2008 and what are you
most hopeful for in 2009?
Sofia Mulanovich:
The best thing that happened to me in 2008 was
to surf good waves in Indo with my friends, and
I am hopeful for good waves in 2009 too.
JG: Tell us about the first
time you ever stood up on a surfboard. Where was
it and what were you riding?
SM: I was 9 the first
time I stood up on a surfboard. It was up north
in Peru and my friend Magoo De La Rosa pushed
me into a wave with his board, it was an incredible
feeling.
JG: What is your current
favorite board? In 2009 do you have any plans
to experiment with different surfboard designs,
materials or fin configurations?
SM: My favorite board
is my flyer and my proton, love them both, like
them with all kinds of fins.
JG: Do you have any heroes?
If so, who and why?
SM: Anybody that
is a good person and tries their best in what
they do is my hero.
JG: In 2009 we'll see the
best single maneuver ever done by a female surfer.
Who do you think will pull the move and what do
you think it will be?
SM: Mel Bartels or
Chelsea Hedges, they do magic in the waves!
For those of you who like to
jump around instead of going one by one, here's
the complete list of surfers...

of fans in her homeland of Peru and throughout
the world at large. We haven't been able to get
together for a shoot yet, but now that she spends
a great deal of time in Southern California, I
hope that will change soon. It will be fun to
watch Sofia on tour in 2009. She is resolute in
her quest for another world title. The 2004 ASP
