JettyGirl: While faltering economies, political turmoil and energy issues dominated most of the headlines during the past year, much of 2008's good news slipped through the cracks. What's the best thing that happened to you in 2008 and what are you most hopeful for in 2009?
Pauline Ado: I think the best thing that happened to me this year is my decision to do home schooling so I can follow the whole WQS in 2009 and I hope I'll do well on the 'QS tour.

JG: Tell us about the first time you ever stood up on a surfboard. Where was it and what were you riding?
PA: The first time I ever stood up on a wave was on a bodyboard, I was probably 6 or 7. But I was 8 when I first stood up on a real surfboard, it was a big longboard for beginners.

JG: What is your current favorite board? In 2009 do you have any plans to experiment with different surfboard designs, materials or fin configurations?
PA: My current board is a 5'10" by RT surfboards. I already tried different surfboards like quatros and epoxies. I don't really plan to experiment. I'm always ok to try new things but I won't insist trying to find a revolutionary board! The ones I have work pretty well for now.

JG: Do you have any heroes? If so, who and why?
PA: I'll say Steph Gilmore because she is the champ and I love her technique and attitude on the wave.

JG: In 2009 we'll see the best single maneuver ever done by a female surfer. Who do you think will pull the move and what do you think it will be?
PA: I think Silvana Lima already pulls impressive air reverses and I think she could land even bigger ones next year.

Next Surfer: Pauline Menczer
