While faltering economies, political turmoil and
energy issues dominated most of the headlines
during the past year, much of 2008's good news
slipped through the cracks. What's the best thing
that happened to you in 2008 and what are you
most hopeful for in 2009?
Kaitlin Maguire:
During the year 2008 I would say that having my
family and friends around was the best thing that
happened, being able to travel with them and enjoy
some great waves is always a pleasure too.
JG: Tell us about the first
time you ever stood up on a surfboard. Where was
it and what were you riding?
KM: The first place
I stood up on a surfboard is this shore break
called Shipwrecks in Kauai. I would bodyboard
there with my brother and we would stand up on
our bodyboards. One day a guy asked me out of
the blue if I wanted to try a surfboard, so I
caught a wave and popped right up. Not sure what
type of board it was, but after that I made my
brother take me surfing a bunch.
JG: What is your current
favorite board? In 2009 do you have any plans
to experiment with different surfboard designs,
materials or fin configurations?
KM: My favorite board
to ride is a high pro 9'0 Donald Takayama, I have
no configurations or different board designs but
I plan on trying to single fin more.
JG: Do you have any heroes?
If so, who and why?
KM: My hero is my
dad because he is a well rounded person. He has
worked hard for what he wanted and one day I hope
i can be as successful as him. Plus
he's my dad and I love him.
JG: In 2009 we'll see the
best single maneuver ever done by a female surfer.
Who do you think will pull the move and what do
you think it will be?
KM: No Clue!!!!!!
For those of you who like to
jump around instead of going one by one, here's
the complete list of surfers...

Caption: This particular day was so fun. Kaitlin
Maguire was out surfing with her friends Cole
and Brett Robbins and they kept getting these
little rights that would peel forever across the
inside sandbar. I'm not sure what Kaitlin's goals
are but she has the skills to be a world champ...she's
fantastic on the nose, does an incredible backside
off-the-lip, and has one of the best frontside
cutbacks around. Photo: Chris Grant / JettyGirl.com
