While faltering economies, political turmoil and
energy issues dominated most of the headlines
during the past year, much of 2008's good news
slipped through the cracks. What's the best thing
that happened to you in 2008 and what are you
most hopeful for in 2009?
Alizee Arnaud: The
best thing that happened to me in 2008 was to
win the ASP European Pro Junior Tour because it
was my goal at the beginning of the year and because
there are some really good girls like Pauline
Ado, Lee Ann Curren, Justine Dupont, Marie Dejean
and Canelle Bulard. I was very happy because I
missed the title two years ago with less than
100 points behind Lee Ann.
JG: Tell us about the first
time you ever stood up on a surfboard. Where was
it and what were you riding?
AA: The first time
I stood up on a board was in 1999. I was 9 years
old and it was in a famous beachbreack in Capbreton
Le Santocha during the summer. I was riding a
pink Town and Country board...it was a big board,
it was a board from the 80's I think. Haha...and
the board is still in my room.
JG: What is your current
favorite board? In 2009 do you have any plans
to experiment with different surfboard designs,
materials or fin configurations?
AA: My current favorite
board is a Mark Phipps from last May. I was riding
this board during all the Pro Juniors this summer
and during the ISA WJSQ in France. It's a magic
board! It's a 5'9" x 18 x 2 3/16. I just
surf with this board during the contests. I never
surf this board in freesurfs. I also love a board
shaped by Christiaan Bradley, a 5'10" x 17
3/4 x 2 3/16.
JG: Do you have any heroes?
If so, who and why?
AA: Lisa Andersen
is one of my heroes beacause she's done lots of
thnigs for women's surfing and because she's the
best female surfer ever!
Dane Reynolds is one of my heroes and Laure Manaudou,
a French swimmer. But, my first heroes are my
parents for everything they've done.
JG: In 2009 we'll see the
best single maneuver ever done by a female surfer.
Who do you think will pull the move and what do
you think it will be?
AA: What a question!!
Hahahah! I don't know, you know there are a lot
of girls who make airs, reverses, and big barrels
but you never hear their names in the papers so
I think somebody unknown will make the best maneuver.
But, I think Silvana Lima is gonna make a biggggg
frontside air reverse.
For those of you who like to
jump around instead of going one by one, here's
the complete list of surfers...
