JettyGirl:
Any New Year's resolutions for 2008?
Sormarie Nieves: To tell you the truth I seem to forget my
new year's resolution by the second of January every year.
So this year I'm not going to set up any big difficult tasks.
I think I'll go with something simple that should actually
make 2008 a good and happy year. My resolution for this year
is to enjoy life, to do the best I can in whatever I do and
to put my heart into it.
JG: If you were to donate time or money to a charitable organization or cause in 2008, what would it be and why?
SN: I would donate my money and time to two foundations Little
Star Foundation and Humanitarian
Wave. I have been involved in both foundations this past
year and I saw what a big difference they make in people's
lives including mine. Little Star Foundation is a non-profit
children's organization dedicated to providing long term care,
educational, medical and financial support to children with
cancer and children in need worldwide. My other foundation
of choice is Humanitarian Wave. This nonprofit organization
is committed to helping children and adults living in poverty,
suffering from disease, abuse and neglect. I saw what a big
difference both foundations make so I want to keep supporting
their causes and helping in whatever ways I can.
JG: Judging on any category you find relevant, name five female surfers to watch for in 2008 and why.
SN: In the music industry watch out for Tristan Prettyman.
She is a local Pipes surfer with a beautiful voice and lyrics.
She is releasing her new album soon. In the contest scene
I would watch out for for Karina Petroni. She just qualified
for the tour and she is really good. I would also keep my
eyes on Crystal Dzigas. She is one of the best female longboarders
and she should be winning some big contest soon. On the humanitarian
side I would watch out for Yanaris Nieves and Maja Muric.
They are the two surfer girls behind Humanitarian Wave and
they are ready to make the world a better place for those
in need.
