SO-CAL NATIVE HEATHER JORDAN JOINS TEAM CALAVERA
- NSSA College Division Surfer Joins Ranks of the Water Warriors -

(December 6, 2012)—Calavera is excited to announce the newest addition to the Calavera Team, Heather Jordan. Heather, a native of Southern California, chose to postpone a shot at a full time career in surfing in order to pursue a higher education. Currently a senior at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Heather is successful both in and out of the water and demonstrates the strength, focus and determination it takes to be a Calavera ”water warrior.”

“We are delighted to have Heather join the Calavera crew. She is not only a ripping surfer, but she embodies the fearless and the feminine qualities that Calavera is all about. The other Calavera girls and I are so stoked to add her to the group and are excited to work and play together over the next few years!” said Calavera founder Anna Jerstrom.

At just 22 years old, Heather is no stranger to swell. She has been surfing for over a decade and has traveled to some of the world’s greatest surfing hot-spots: Hawaii, El Salvador, Indonesia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Calavera’s birthplace, Costa Rica. She currently surfs on the UCLA Women’s Team and took 4th place in the College Women’s division at the NSSA National Championship. In addition, she holds multiple West Coast Championship titles in the WSA, Open Women’s Division.

“What I love about Calavera is their genuine and central goal to advance women in their sport,” said Heather of why she’s stoked to join the Calavera team. “Calavera is distinctive because they uphold their mission to support female athletes, and they have the results to prove it.”

Through her studies at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where she is currently a senior, and surfing the NSSA Division, Heather is able to combine her passion for surfing with her desire for a higher education. Having developed an appreciation for world travel, she is pursuing a degree in Political Science with a focus in International Relations and a minor in Environmental Systems.

Team Calavera is made up of professional female athletes: WQS surfer Jordan Hundley, UK Champion Evie Johnstone Ami Berg and flowboarder World Champion Amy Stevens. These fiercely talented femmes span the globe from California to Costa Rica and beyond, competing with the best of the best in their fields. Each of these women has the heart of a champion, fearlessly pushing their limits both on and off the board.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ami Berg and Amy Luis Join the Calavera Swimwear Surf Team
Florida and California Athletes added to the roster of ripping Calavera girls

Ami Berg, Calavera Swimwear Surf TeamNewport Beach, CA (October 20, 2011) – Calavera Swimwear is excited to announce the additions of Florida surfer Ami Berg and California flowboarder Amy Luis to the Calavera Surf Team. Berg and Luis join current Calavera riders Jordan Hundley, Costa Rica’s number one ranked female surfer, and rising surf star Evie Johnstone, also based in Costa Rica.

“We’re so stoked to add two young women of the caliber of Ami and Amy to our team,” adds Anna Jerstrom, Founder of Calavera Swimwear. “Not only are these women fantastic athletes, they are both caring and charitable role models. They will be outstanding representatives for Calavera and we’re excited to see what they’ll accomplish next.”

Launched in May 2011, Calavera Swimwear is created especially for independent, adventurous female surfers who want to showcase their personal style without losing the functionality of performance-minded swimwear.

Florida native and Cocoa Beach resident Ami Berg (pictured above) is a passionate surfer and student at Central Florida University who was named the 2009/2010 Southeast Regional Champion for Womens Shortboard. Not only a competitive surfer, Berg dedicates her time to teaching children with autism how to surf as well volunteering with the Special Olympics.

“I love Calavera Suits because they are not only super cute they actually stay on when I surf,” says Berg. “Finding a cute and flattering bathing suit that doesn’t fall off as soon as you touch the water is very difficult to do, so when I first tried out my new Calavera suits I was sold immediately! It is so wonderful to have a bikini company cater to all types of surfer girls and their styles.”

Amy Luis, Calavera Swimwear Surf TeamPismo Beach, CA-based Amy Luis (pictured at left) is a lifelong water woman and adrenaline junkie. Luis competes internationally in the sport of flowboarding and was recently crowned the 2011 Flowboarding World Champion in Durban, South Africa. In her “spare time”, Luis is also an emergency room nurse.

“I am thrilled to be on the Calavera Swimwear team,” explains Luis. “Calavera suits are so comfortable and it is honestly the first time in my life that I do not have to constantly check my suit while riding. I love how they are not only practical but feminine as well. To me, Calavera is about being a ripper and a woman at the same time!”

Calavera Introduces Innovative Swimwear Catered to the Female Surfer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Calavera Introduces Innovative Swimwear Catered to the Female Surfer
Created to allow girls to focus on waves and not wardrobe malfunctions, Calavera features unique performance-enhancing details and cutting-edge, stylish design

Calavera Swimwear

Newport Beach, CA (May 17, 2011) – Calavera Swimwear announces the launch of its debut swimwear collection, a line of bikinis created specifically for female surfers that not only stays in place through all the physical demands of surfing but features unique, edgy fabrics and customizable combinations. Calavera bikinis are designed specifically for independent, adventurous women who want to showcase their personal style without losing the functionality of performance-minded swimwear. Developed and manufactured in the USA, the Calavera Swimwear Collection will officially launch Memorial Day Weekend and will be available for purchase online via the Calavera Web Shop.

Founded by passionate surfer and savvy businesswoman, Anna Jerstrom, Calavera’s designs are grounded in the philosophy that female surfers should not be distracted by their bikinis but rather empowered by them. Calavera swimwear is constructed with a unique design and intelligent mix of materials typically only available in men’s surfwear such as Velcro, fillers and low-flexibility materials to improve fit and limit the stretch yet allow for easy adjustments. Calavera bikini tops also feature tie-up solutions that reduce stress on the neck from the string ties and strong elastic bands that allow the tops to remain securely in place no matter how brutal the surf session.

“The better I became at surfing the more I realized how difficult it is to find a bikini that both looks good and stays on while getting pounded by waves,” explains Jerstrom. “I was inspired to create Calavera as a much-needed swimwear alternative for surfer girls who don’t want to sacrifice fashion for function. Calavera surfers are able to focus on becoming better surfers, and not on whether their bikinis are malfunctioning.”

Before public release, Calavera Swimwear bikinis were rigorously field-tested in the company’s birthplace of Jaco, Costa Rica by the Calavera Surf Team that includes Costa Rica’s number one ranked female surfer Jordan Hundley and rising surf star Evie Johnstone.

“As a competitive surfer the last thing I want to think about when I see the perfect wave is whether or not my swimsuit is going to stay on,” adds Hundley. “Calavera’s swimwear line is awesome because the suits stay in place and look great both in and out of the water. I love how I can mix and match the bikinis to bring my own style out when I’m in my element.”
