About “Say No More” – A Women’s Longboard Surf Film by Taylor Larison of Birdman Media
Birdman Media presents, “Say No More,” an all-women’s longboard surf film showcasing some of Southern California’s finest female wave riders gliding through their favorite breaks. Starring: Lindsay Steinriede-Engle, Makala Smith, Erin Ashley, Tory Gilkerson, Karina Rozunko, and Stephanie Vigiano.

Jettygirl’s take on the film…
We met Taylor Larison on the beach months ago as he was filming early footage for Say No More and he was so amped on the project. Despite the huge population of women surfers that grace virtually every break on the planet nowadays, female-focused surf films are still pretty rare. Say No More premiered in Carlsbad on July 26 and it’s easy to see why the theatre was packed. From Erin Ashley’s timeless noserides to Lindsay Steinriede-Engle’s powerful carves, we found every surfer’s segment unique and entertaining. With a mixture of eclectic tunes and footage from some of Southern California’s most famous surf spots, Say No More is a surf film well worth having in your DVD or digital collection.

If you don’t happen to win the Say No More DVD Giveaway, head over to Birdman Media and purchase a copy. At only $10 for a DVD (shipping included), it’s an absolute steal! For digital downloads, head to TheSurfNetwork.com to rent or buy the film.

“While we still seem to be living in a world where we’re showing the youth (via ads) that image is more important that substance, it’s great to see that someone still believes in the idea that women as athletes can stand on their own. Taylor Larison has gotten together an eclectic group of female longboarders–from high performance to traditional loggers and all are doing their own thing.” – Erin Ashley

“The making of ‘Say No More’ has been an awesome adventure of surfing good waves with good friends and great support. I am stoked to be a part of the film and can’t wait to see the final product!” – Tory Gilkerson

“We may not have traveled to exotic locations with perfect empty waves and tropical, crystal clear seas, but we have been dedicated to showcasing what we female longboarders do day in and day out for the love of the sport. Outlets and recognition for women’s longboarding are so few and far between that I am very grateful to be a part of an all-female longboard film that highlights some of my favorite waves around my hometown and Southern California. – Lindsay Steinriede

“I am so super excited to be a part of “Say No More!” When Bird told me he was making the film, the first thing I did was say thank you! There aren’t enough women’s surf films, and hardly any of strictly women’s longboarding in this world. I love that he is really trying to help progress the sport and expose unknown surfers to the community. It’s been a great experience being in the film and getting to know Bird. I see many more great films being created by BMM in the future!” – Stephanie Vigiano

Do a Google search for Bruna Schmitz and you’ll be wading through well over one hundred images before you get to a single photo of her surfing. This fact may be hidden from the general web searcher but her fins-free blasts are equally beautiful.

I’m not sure if they had jack-in-the-box toys in Argentina when she was growing up but my favorite human version is Ornella Pellizzari. By far.

Dear Surf Industry,

You missed one.

The girl on the virtually sticker-less purple board is one of the best surfers I’ve ever seen. If you don’t believe me, believe the legendary Jay Adams who I could hear whistling loudly after the first wave of her session featured a huge hook, a fins-free blast, a clean roundhouse, and a solid frontside air.

Next time you’re calculating budgets and going over pie charts for your lifestyle surfers, perhaps you can carve out a slice for a surfer who actually blows minds instead of kisses.

Sincerely,

A fan of Dimity Stoyle

When surfing is broken down to its simplest form, the common denominator we all share is that it’s fun, pure fun. Facing an onshore closeout, this happy Hawaiian chucked her board up and jumped over the falls with an aloha-filled smile that warmed this particular photographer’s heart. At this 1/1000th of a second in world history, the true meaning of surfing was never clearer. Kamalehua Keohokapu, surfer.

Today I was able to shoot with one of Transworld SURF’s Hottest Girls in Pro Surfing. Had I known of the honor bestowed upon her by making the list, I certainly would have offered my congratulations. Then again, when stacked up against her drive and training for a world title, her amazing painting skills, her deep love of books, her selfless desire to help out with charitable causes, and the absolutely professional way she carries out her duties as an athlete and role model, I don’t think the “hottest girl” thing would rank very high on her list of accomplishments.

Courtney Conlogue, turning heads in a way that any true surfer can appreciate, by laying down a solid turn on a solid wave.

Single Wave Thursday with Erin Ashley. One ride, no music, just surfing.

When we think of style, a handful of surfers immediately come to mind. Even on tiny days like this one, Erin Ashley makes it look effortless as she quickly cross-steps to the nose for a ten. For those of you who are wondering what all the black specks are flashing across the screen, I was literally sitting in a freeway of flies. While Worm was out cruising, I was being attacked by insects. Single Wave Thursday. One ride, no music, just surfing.
